Fear - the perfume you wear so well,
As the drumbeat quickens
Shadows collide in perfect symphony,
Crushing your elegant movements
Shattering those well formed sensibilities,
As I watch.
The soft white of your eyes,
How your breath no longer flows but... inches
Over your dry lips,
Every step weighed by lead
As panic courses through your mind,
Sending thoughts crashing into the wall of insanity.
One more wisp of that sweet, intoxicating, scent
Draws me to my feet,
While old echoes of memories bay for blood,
Your blood.
I prefer to take my time,
Softly creeping over the smooth, silken ground
Which you stumbled and slipped upon.
A solitary leaf idly meandering along it's path
Sends you flying forwards at break neck speed,
Only to find your body rebels against you.
Circling, I close in,
A glimpse of me is all you need
Before it's all over.

Nice to meet you ~
Fantastic! I love "shattering those well formed sensibilities."
ReplyDeleteWow, that last stanza leaves me gasping, especially the last two lines!
ReplyDeleteoh now THIS is Shen haha - it perfectly represents that feisty spirit! powerful, stalking even ;) the descriptions as always are strong, but the thing has real rhythm and flow - it all blends in to build up this great story - this snapshot and backstory - brilliant response I think! nice!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to read your poetry again. This is a strong and sensual piece.
ReplyDeleteStrong sense of tension, and an instant engagement for me--prey and predator, both very vividly built, in a disturbingly honest look at that often near-fatal dance we do in the jungle of the heart.
ReplyDeleteRife with all the animal instincts of the hunter...
ReplyDeleteNice intensity to this. You certainly got my heart beating. Very nicely written.
ReplyDeleteVery well done, as if coming from a place of reality and knowledge.
